Educational trails and walking circuits
The surroundings of Kašperské Hory offer several interesting hiking trails. For their brief description see below. If you need a more detailed description, you will find it here walking circuits map or you may go to the Leaflet page where you will find other leaflets on Kašperské Hory.
1. Around the pillory to viewing points
A red marked trail, length 5.5 km (approx. 2 hours), elevation difference 130 m, trail finish: asphalt, forest ways and pastures.
A circuit hiking trail to the Gallows Hill and Vinice Hill offering panoramic views of the central part of the Bohemian Forest and its foothill area heads towards the forest chapel of Mary Help of Christians and then backwards around the church of St. Nicolas to Kašperské Hory.
2. A walk through Bohemian Forest villages
A green marked trail, length 9.5 km (approx. 3.5 h), elevation difference 260 m, finish: asphalt, forest ways a pastures.
A walk along the chestnut tree alley leading to the village of Tuškov, scenic settlement of Opolenec to the pass below the Kašperk castle and back to the town of Kašperské Hory. It offers scenic views of the Otava river valley, church of St. Maurice and Kašperk castle.
3. The national history and science walking circuit
A yellow marked trail, length 8 km (approx. 3 h), elevation difference 230 m, finish: asphalt, forest ways.
A circuit hiking trail around the church of St. Nicolas, forest chapel of the Mary Help of Christians to the small town of Rejštejn.
4. An alternative way to the Kašperk castle
A blue marked trail, length 8 km (approx. 3 h), elevation difference 260 m, finish: asphalt, forest ways a pastures.
A walking circuit crossing the settlement of Žlíbek and the ruin of Pustý hrádek to the Kašperk castle and back to the town through the settlement of Kavrlík. The circuit hiking trail is an alternative way to the Kašperk castle.
5. The trail to Ždánov hill through Nebe and Peklo
A red marked trail, length 8.5 km (approx. 3 h), elevation difference 210 m, finish: asphalt, forest ways, mountain meadows.
A circuit hiking trail passing by the hunting lodge of Nebe, around the Chlum hill to the abandoned settlement of Ždánov and back to Kašperské Hory through the Kavrlík settlement. Going this way, you will enjoy amazing views of the town and tops the Bohemian Forest mountains.
6. The gold diggers hiking trail
A green marked trail, length 7.5 km (approx. 2.5 h), elevation difference 200 m, finish: asphalt, forest ways and paths.
Heading first to the Amálino valley, this educational hiking trail meanders through the core of the most important gold mining district of the Pre-Hussite Bohemia including numerous gold mining works exposed in the period from 15th to 20th century. Information boards are installed along the trail.

7. The border guard trail
A green marked trail, length 19.5 km (approx. 6.5 h), elevation difference 600 m, finish: asphalt, forest ways a paths.
This educational trail follows the line of light military fortifications (reinforced concrete fortifications called “Řopík”) in the Zlatý potok valley up to the village of Řetenice. From there, it rises to the slope of the Ždánov hill to a meadow where a disappeared settlement of the same name used to be located and further to the ruin of the Pustý hrádek and to the Kašperk castle. The final section of this hiking trail passes by light border fortifications positioned above the village of Tuškov and then it turns back to Kašperské Hory.
8. The branch of the Golden Path crossing Kašperské Hory
A specific marking system, length 24 km (approx. 8 – 9 h), elevation difference 650 m, finish: asphalt, forest ways a paths.
Starting in Kašperské Hory, the trail drops to the Amálino valley. Then it rises to the Malý Kozí Hřbet, Zhůří, Huťská mountain, Horská Kvidla, Kvilda and from there it rises to the border crossing point Bučina. It is not a hiking circuit.
